Getting started
- Install Casement Home on your Mac and open it. The Casement icon appears in the menu bar.
- Install Casement from the App Store on your iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro or Mac. (Casement on a Mac connects to Casement Home on another Mac.)
- In Casement, choose your Mac. The first time, you pair: check that both screens show the same 6-digit number, then click Allow on your Mac.
Permissions on the Mac
- Screen Recording: to send your Mac's app windows to your device
- Accessibility: to deliver typing and clicks from your device to the Mac. Until you allow it, typing from your device won't reach the Mac
- Local Network: to send windows to your device and receive its input
- System Audio Recording: to play your Mac's sound on your device
Frequently asked questions
- What does Casement do?
- It brings the windows of your desktop apps to your iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro or Mac as windows on that device. It is not a remote desktop that shrinks your whole screen; each app window opens in the shape of your device.
- What do I need?
- A Mac with Casement Home and an iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro or Mac with Casement. The Mac with Casement Home needs macOS 26 or later and Apple silicon (Intel-based Macs are not supported). The device with Casement needs iOS 26, iPadOS 26, visionOS 26 or macOS 26 or later (Casement also runs on Intel-based Macs). To use Casement on a Mac, you need a different Mac for Casement Home.
- Can I use it away from home?
- Yes. Install Tailscale on both your Mac and your device and join the same tailnet. Pair for the first time on the same Wi-Fi network. Once connected, your device remembers your Mac's Tailscale address and connects automatically from anywhere after that. (If you add your Mac's Tailscale address by hand, you can use it away from home from the start.)
- Is the connection secure?
- Connections are encrypted with DTLS 1.2 or later and go directly between your Mac and your device, with no relay server. The first time you connect, you check that both screens show the same 6-digit number, and only devices you allow on the Mac can connect. See Network and data commitments.
- Can I see my Mac's whole screen?
- Yes. Besides app windows, you can open your Mac's desktop (the whole screen) as a window, and pinch to zoom.
- Can I type? What about Japanese and other languages?
- Yes. On iPhone and iPad, you can use your device's own keyboard, including its input methods and predictive text. There is also a row of extra keys such as Esc, Tab, Control, Option, Command and the arrow keys, as well as Casement's software keyboard and trackpad. External keyboards such as Bluetooth ones work too. For Apple Vision Pro and Mac, see the guidance below.
- Do I need a keyboard or mouse for Apple Vision Pro?
- For comfortable typing and navigation, please connect an external keyboard and mouse (or trackpad) to your Apple Vision Pro. The software keyboard is off by default. To use it, turn on "Software Keyboard" in Casement's Settings.
- Can I use a mouse on iPhone?
- Yes. To use a mouse on iPhone, you need to turn on AssistiveTouch. Go to Settings › Accessibility › Touch › AssistiveTouch and turn it on. For help connecting your mouse and setting up its buttons, see Apple Support.
- Does it work while my Mac is locked?
- Yes. While the Mac is locked, app windows don't show, but the desktop window shows the lock screen, so you can type your password there and unlock it.
- How many devices can connect?
- One device at a time per Mac. If another device connects, the previous one is disconnected. Each device pairs separately, so you can switch between iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro and Mac. A device can have several Macs registered (it connects to one at a time).
- How much does it cost?
- Casement Home for Mac is free. Casement has a 7-day free trial, then a one-time purchase on the App Store. One purchase covers iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro and Mac. There is no subscription. See the App Store page for the price.
- Is there sound?
- Yes. Casement plays the sound of your Mac's apps on your device. While it plays, the computer's speakers stay silent. To hear it on the Mac instead, turn off "Play Sound on This Device" in Settings › Sound in Casement on your device. On iPhone and iPad, Silent mode mutes it.
Casement puts responsiveness first, so in videos the picture and sound can be slightly out of step. To keep them in sync, turn on "Delay Video to Sync with Sound" on the same screen (your actions then take that much longer to show).
Casement does not send your device's microphone to the Mac. - Can I connect to a Mac that is asleep?
- No. Casement can't wake a sleeping Mac, so keep your Mac awake while you use it.
- Does it work on Windows or Android?
- Not at the moment. Casement Home works on a Mac, and Casement on Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro and Mac) only.
Using Casement on a Mac
- You need two Macs: Casement on your Mac connects to Casement Home on another Mac. It can't connect to Casement Home on the same Mac (both would move the same pointer, and the window would show itself). In that case, Casement shows "Can't connect to this Casement Home".
- Windows and menus: each window of an app on the Mac you connect to opens as a window on your Mac. That app's menus appear in your Mac's menu bar.
- Keyboard shortcuts: while one of those windows is in front, ⌘Q, ⌘W and ⌘H go to the app on the other Mac. ⌘Tab and ⌘Space stay on your Mac.
- Quitting Casement: choose Casement › Quit Casement in the menu bar. Clicks in the menus always act on your Mac.
- Typing: you type with your Mac's input sources. Switching the input source switches it on the other Mac too. The row of extra keys, the software keyboard and the software trackpad are on iPhone and iPad only, not on the Mac.
- Clipboard: when you paste with ⌘V into one of those windows, macOS may ask whether Casement can paste. Allow it.
- Local Network: the permission for Casement is in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network.
If you can't connect
- Is Casement Home running on your Mac? (Look for the icon in the menu bar.)
- Are your Mac and your device on the same network? If you are away from home, is Tailscale connected on both?
- On your device, is Local Network access turned on for Casement? (Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network; on a Mac, System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network)
- Are you trying to connect Casement on a Mac to Casement Home on the same Mac? (You need another Mac.)
- On your Mac, are Screen Recording, Accessibility and Local Network turned on for Casement Home? (System Settings › Privacy & Security)
- Is your Mac awake?
