Privacy Policy
In short
- Casement has no ads, no tracking and no user accounts.
- The apps send nothing to the developer's servers. There are no developer servers.
- Screen images, sound and input travel only between your computer and your device. The only image stored is a small, heavily blurred one used as a widget background, and only when you turn that on.
- This website uses no cookies and no analytics, and does not collect browsing records.
What this policy covers
Casement Home for computers (currently for Mac), Casement for iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro and Mac (the "apps"), and the website casement.win (the "site").
Information the apps handle
Screen, sound and input
The apps send images of the desktop app windows or the entire screen you open from your device, the sound of your desktop apps (when "Play Sound on This Device" is on in your device's settings), and input from your device (keys, touches and pointer), directly between your computer and your device. The connection is encrypted with DTLS 1.2 or later. Screen images, sound and input are not stored (the one exception is the widget background, described under "What is stored on your devices").
Clipboard
When "Share Clipboard" is on in your device's settings (it is on at first), text you copy is sent directly between your computer and your device. Images and files are not sent. Text is sent only when you copy on your computer, and right before you paste on your computer text you copied on your device. Received text is placed only on the clipboard of the device that received it, and is neither stored nor logged. If you don't want this, turn the setting off.
What is stored on your devices
- Pairing information (the names of your paired devices and the keys used for encryption; the device's keys are not synced to iCloud or included in backups)
- App settings
- The list of apps (names) and their icons on the computers you connect to, and your recently opened apps. These are used by Home Screen widgets, the Casement icon's quick actions, and search on your device (Spotlight)
- Only for apps whose Home Screen widget has "Desktop window in background" turned on: one small, heavily blurred image (360×360) of the window you last viewed, per app. The unblurred image is never written to a file. Remove the widget or turn the setting off, and the image is deleted the next time you open Casement
This stays on each device and is never sent anywhere. Deleting the app removes it.
In addition, when Casement moves to the background, iOS and iPadOS keep a picture of the screen on your device for the app switcher. This is done by the operating system, and Casement does not use it.
Logs
By default, Casement Home does not write activity logs to files, because logs would contain window titles and app names.
Where the apps connect
The apps only talk between your computer and your device. The only other traffic Casement itself sends is the announcement on your local network that lets devices find your computer (Bonjour / mDNS: only the computer's name, ID and local network address) and name lookups for the destination on your device. Casement Home does not perform reverse DNS lookups for Tailscale addresses. App Store and OS checks, and Tailscale traffic, are handled by the operating system or Tailscale. The full list is in Network and data commitments.
If you use Tailscale
If you use Tailscale to connect from outside your home network, that route is provided by Tailscale and is governed by Tailscale's privacy policy.
Crash reports
Casement never sends crash reports itself. On a device running Casement (including a Mac), they reach the developer through Apple only if you have turned on "Share with App Developers" in the system settings. Casement Home is distributed outside the App Store, and there is no route for its crash reports to reach the developer.
